Atleast three people were killed, dozens injured and two vehicles crushed as an Amtrak train derailed south of Seattle on Monday morning. The train was making its first-ever run on the new route.
According to investigators, the train was traveling at 80mph in a 30mph zone, the Associated Press reported.
Early morning commuters rushed to help the passengers of the train. Several injured people have been rushed to nearby hospitals.
In a statement, the FBI said local police were the primary respondents and there was no information suggesting "an elevated risk to Washington residents."
This was the first time the train was running on this route which was part of the USD 180.7 million project designed to speed up transportation by removing passenger trains from a route along Puget Sound.
